Mount Z-holder for Anet ET4 3D Printer

Occasionally, we can find some defects in our prints when printing with Anet ET4 3D printer or ET5 3D printer and obviously see that the Z axis is rotating with a little bit offset on the top. Mounting a Z holder onto the printer could help to have a more stable Z-axis movement. ZW3D Thailand shared their working process of adding a Z-holder on their YouTube channel.

I – Download Z-Holder File & Set Right Nozzle Temperature

Click on below link and download the Z-holder file for Anet ET4 series printers.

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1n6AChY5XZ54D-drh9HVuTCtrrn8ZC5aE

Slice the downloaded file and set the right printing parameters.

Z-holder printing parameters (filament used here is PETG):

Nozzle: 225-230℃

Bed: 70 ℃

Speed: 50mm/s

X/Y movement: 120mm/s

Fan: 20-50%

Layer: 0.15mm

Retraction: 0.3mm / Speed: 30mm/s

Tips for printing PETG:

To print with PETG filament, the nozzle temperature should be set between 225 ℃ and 235 ℃.

II – Print & Mount the Z-Holder

To begin, we must first remove filament residues from the nozzle tip due to the last print if there are. This must be done before printing to avoid warping or uneven printing surface.

We could manual extrude some filament into the nozzle because every time when printing completes, the printer will retract the filament and leave the nozzle empty without filament.

Print and mount the Z-holder onto the top of the gantry.

Additional components:

2* T nuts & screws / 1 * bearing

Why we should mount a Z-holder for the shaft?

We can see in above picture, the Z axis threaded shaft is not straight enough at the top. It rotates with a little bit offset to the center at the end and result in a wobbling effect on the printing. The additional mounted Z holder will keep the Z movement more stable and straight enough for more accurate 3D printing.

In conclusion, if the Z axis threaded shaft on your Anet 3D printer is not quite vertical, a printed Z-holder can fasten the shaft well and fix the printing issues caused by its offset rotation at the top.
