WHAT IS A LITHOPHANE?

Lithophanes are essentially embossed photos generated by a 3D printer. The print results don’t show much at first, but shine some light through one and you’ll be amazed by the details.

It basically consists of the projection of a light through a semitransparent sheet in which a volume is modeled, in this case I used white PETG.

Without a doubt, lithophanes are a trend right now and you have surely seen them in many places and you are still wondering how to make one, well in this article I will teach you how to create one easy and quick.

IT´S SO EASY

Creating these lithophanes is very easy, you just have to follow these steps.

First we have to choose a digital photograph that we would like to print on our piece.

Later we will go to this website http://3dp.rocks/lithophane/

On this page we can create our stl file with any image we have.

We will open our image from images, and choose file Now we will select which shape we want and we click on refresh, our image will appear

already in the screen

SETTINGS

It is important to click on settings / Image Settings and choose Positive Image.

In settings / Model settings we can choose the thickness, the border thickness and the size.

When we are ready and we have liked our model, we click on Download this will create an STL file which we will open in our slicer .

Once our slicer is open we will open the stl and in layer height we can use .16 or 2 is perfect.

In perimeter we can leave the walls in 2 or 3

100% filling

We print without supports and we can add a raft or a skirt.

The speed I recommend that you do not exceed 45 mm to ensure better adherence between the layers.

When we are ready we save the file as gcode in our memory and we take it to our printer.

Lithophanes are an excellent idea to print either for your home, for a gift, to create lamps or some decoration.

And there is certainly a large market niche with these pieces

Now you only need a light source like a lamp behind your lithophany to see the magic!

Dare to print your favorite photo and discover the wonder of 3D printing
